Walt Disney Studios has released a very short Super Bowl teaser advert which is promoting the upcoming TV spot for John Carter which is set to air during the Super Bowl XLVI on February 5th, 2012.

The sneak peak itself offers no new footage and a tiny bit of footage at that. With only 22 seconds in the spot, only 9 of those seconds is footage from the film. The rest of the advert is announcing a new sweepstakes by Disney which is awarding tickets to the 2013 Super Bowl.

Details:

  • The sweepstakes entry period begins at 6:30pm ET (i.e. kickoff) on February 5th and ends on March 8th (ie. the day before John Carter is released)
  • To enter, participants must enter an ‘exclusive code’ which will be aired along with the full commercial
  • The Grand prize will include a 5 day/4 night stay with roundtrip airfare for two along tickets to the Super Bowl in 2013

Synopsis:

From Academy Award®–winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes John Carter—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). John Carter is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

John Carter opens March 9, 2012 and stars Taylor Kitsch (Wolverine), Lynn Collins (Wolverine), Samantha Morton and Mark Strong.  The film is an adaptation of “A Princess of Mars“ by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
