Diamond Editions

Walt Disney Studio Home Media Entertainment is currently releasing a line up of DVD, Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray films as a high definition follow up to the Walt Disney Platinum Edition Collection. Currently there are five films released in the series which began running in October 2009.

The series started with Snow White and the Seven Dwarves Diamond Edition which was released on October 6, 2009 and marked the first high definition release of the series on Blu-ray. Walt Disney Diamond Edition’s also includes the first release of a 3D Disney classic film on home media with the release of Beauty and the Beast 3D on October 5, 2011.

Each film is only available for a short time before going into moratorium and put back into the Disney Vault, in which they are unavailable for several years until re-released again. Currently Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is the only Diamond Edition release to go back into the Disney Vault. Snow White was available for 1 year, 6 months and 24 days before production stopped on April 30, 2011.

The Walt Disney Diamond Edition’s will comprise of 14 Disney’s most treasured titles, including; Beauty and the Beast, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, The Lion King, Bambi, Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians, Sleeping Beauty and Pinnochio. Disney originally planned to release Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 as part of this collection, however decided to release them as Special Editions. The final 2 films have not been confirmed and whether or not Disney will make this a 12 piece collection. Disney expects to release all of its Diamond Edition films by 2015.
